The Art of Intentional Parenting – Session #3 – Challenges & Solutions
November 6 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
The Art of Intentional Parenting – A Series of Conversations About Family
OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY
Today’s families experience significant stress while attempting to navigate evolving social pressures. The Art of Intentional Parenting series will provide some basic guidelines and concrete skills for families to consider and utilize as they face challenging or adverse situations. These engaging and experiential sixty-minute sessions are designed so that each can stand-alone; they also build on each other if attended in sequence. A primary focus will be moving away from reactive or authoritarian responses and toward developing proactive and collaborative strategies.
Session 3: Challenges and Solutions In this session we will offer and demonstrate concrete skills that families can utilize when facing conflict, unmet needs, or other forms of adversity. In particular, we will explore effective communication and conflict resolution strategies. The families in attendance will learn about, and take part in, exercises from Pia Mellody’s “Conjoint Communication” model. This model offers a format for each member of the family to be heard and to hear from others without judgment or blame. We will also teach some simple and easy techniques for emotional regulation and de-escalation.
