Helping Our Kids (and Ourselves) Navigate Teen Turbulence

Children contemplating early adolescence today are at much higher risk of adverse experiences than their parents were. Parents often feel overwhelmed by the tidal wave of technological revolution that is social media, and they wonder how they can stay in touch with, and protect their children from the inherent risks.

In this interactive session, we will explore and discuss how to maintain and build our children’s resilience to help them navigate these difficult times. We will talk about adolescent brain development and its impact on emotions, choice making, and risk taking. Finally, we will explore strategies for maintaining protective boundaries and effective communication.

Peer Mentor Event:

11:15am – 12:00pm

Engaging Kids in Learning

This interactive discussion will focus on Tutors’ experiences and obstacles in helping younger children to learn. Engagement strategies such as Emotional IQ, Play, and other interactive learning models will be explored. The utilization of mindfulness techniques and other collaborative approaches for helping younger children build resilience and their prolonged engagement will also be discussed.
